How to Choose a tungsten carbide grade?

First, we know that tungsten carbide is a kind of carbide with high hardness, high toughness, good wear resistance ,good corrosion resistance and high melting point. These determine the tungsten carbide can be used in various industries, some working positions needs its high hardness and impact resistance, some needs its high toughness and hardness, some needs its good wear resistance and corrosion resistance, some even needs its high density to make weight.

So when you need to choose a grade to use, you need first to figure out what property you need to make use of the carbide.

Let me take some examples.

Sample 1 .

We have two customers who make carbon steel nails,Customer A make black carbon steel nails at around 200 pcs/minute. Customer B make pickling carbon steel nails at 400-500 pcs per minute.

After comparation, we recommend Customer A our ZHD82A Grades, with hardness 83HRA and grain size 2.0.This grade is developed for Cold heading machines making black steel nails at comparative low working speed.

But for customer B, the raw material he uses is pickled carbon steel, hardness will be higher than customer A's material , so the tungsten carbide need to be harder than ZHD 82A,and the working speed is faster, so it need the dies to be more wear resistant, with all consideration, we suggest him our HR002 grade with hardness 84 HRA and grain size 1.4.

After using into the production, they both give good feedback to us.

Sample 2 

One customer making stainless steel screws, as we know stainless steel is with high hardness and high tensile strength, so we cannot use the dies which are used in carbon steel fasteners machines.

We developed HRS1 (hardness 83-83.5 HRA, grain size 2.4 )and HRS2 (hardness 83.5-84HRA,grain size 2.0)

They are developed according to different stainless steel grades. As soon as we recommend them to our customers,HRS1&HRS2 are warmly welcomed and given very good feedbacks.

Sample 3 

We have a customer making finished dies for machines, sometimes, one die needs to play two different functions, the traditional way is to put two different grades inserts into the die holder, this not only increase the working difficulty ,but also increase the failure rate, thus increasing the cost. This makes him very annoyed.

We researched and experimented again and again, and finally we published our Gradient tungsten carbide, combining the high toughness of high cobalt carbide with the good wear resistance of low cobalt tungsten carbide. This not only solved the customer's problems and gained orders for us ,but also expressed our operation faith, that is solve the problems of customers ,thus solve the problems of our company.
